Os Backyardigans (often shortened to Backyardigans) is the Brazilian Portuguese dub of The Backyardigans. It has been aired daily on the Discovery Kids channel in Latin America since its premiere in March 2005.
This dub is substantially more popular than the series' other dubs. Many different merchandise lines (including BBR, Dican, Elka, and Multibrink) are available exclusively in regions that broadcast Os Backyardigans.
Discovery Kids Brasil aired the entire series from 2005 to 2020, making it one of the programs that lasted the longest on the channel. TV Cultura aired the series from 2007 to 2014.
Discovery Kids Brasil aired the entire series. In 2015, the aspect ratio was switched to widescreen. Because the entire series was distributed in full screen, episodes were cropped.
TV Cultura aired all four seasons as well. The channel's broadcasts retain the original English audio and are presented in widescreen format. The series was cut from the channel's lineup in 2014.
Distribution
The series has been distributed on home video. Paramount Home Entertainment distributed videos from 2006 to 2011. FremantleMedia distributed videos from 2008 to 2009. All releases were licensed by Nelvana.
Paramount released the first and fourth seasons. Fremantle released the second and third seasons. Fremantle's releases contained several duplicate episodes. The distributor also released compilations of episodes and songs. Many releases came with a bonus item, such as a mask or a coloring book.
Trivia
Title cards, episode titles and credits were translated into Portuguese for the first three seasons to be shown exclusively on Discovery Kids. In the fourth season and on DVD releases, the titles are not changed.
New voice actors recorded Tyrone and Tasha's greetings for the third season. However, the singing portion of the opening sequence retains the recording from the first season. The opening and the end song were completely re-recorded for the fourth season.
Speaking of Tyrone's greeting, it remains unchanged during the second season when his first Brazilian voice actor, Gabriel Rosatti, was replaced by Bruno Marçal starting from The Secret of Snow.
Uniqua was the only one to keep her original Brazilian voice actress, Gabriela Milani, throughout the entire run of the show. Milani would later reunite with Daniel Figueira, Austin's first Brazilian voice actor, in the local dubs of two shows produced by Disney: as Emma Ross and Xander McCormick in Bunk'd, and as Star Butterfly and Marco Diaz in Star vs. The Forces of Evil.
